Star field

Just took a hike out to the Lightfoot Glacier and caught this wicked view of the night sky. More stars than you can shake a stick at, but no yetis. Probably all kicking back before the new-year festivities.

Uncle Joe

I would have figured that the old Soviet archives would have been scoured pretty good by now, but this picture of Joseph Stalin just showed up in an early December issue of Pravda Dos (the new version of the old Soviet "newspaper".) It was taken in either the late 1940s or the early 1950s at "Uncle Joe's" dacha just north of Moscow, and appears to have been taken sometime in the summer. Even though this would have been taken later in his career, you can still see the steel vitality with which he dragged the Soviet Union from a medieval society to the technological powerhouse it was at the time. Yup. You can also see that he was crazier than two cats in a sack.

Stars

I always thought that you needed a big camera to take good pictures of the stars. I took this one with my 6.0 Vivitar 6300, and it rocks. Try it, it's great. Those astronomers have had a lock on the star-picture-taking for too long, and don't even get me started on that Hubble telescope thing.

Vancouver Film School

So there I was doing my usual research on the 'net and I came across these really cool videos. I checked out where they came from and Sweet Monkey Niblets but it turns out they came from the Vancouver Film School (where Kevin Smith of 'Clerks' fame dropped out of back in the day.) This is totally cool stuff and well worth wasting some time with. There is a link to the right (under Monty Python but above Jackass.) Knock yourselves out. Dig it.
