Joe Strummer

I just bought Streetcore by Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros and I suspect I'll be buying a lot more Joe Strummer music now since it is great. I admit that I had been sort of disappointed in the Clash from Sandanista on, and Cut The Crap doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as The Clash, but this Mescaleros stuff is well worth listening to. I've also heard of an LP called Weather Quake (which is where the above picture is from), and I'll be keeping an eye out for that one as well.

Wall-E

Just got home from seeing the new Pixar movie, Wall-E. Honestly, are those people capable of making a bad movie? Without meaning to sound hyberbolic or anything, this is the best movie ever made in the history of mankind. Well, maybe not, but it's pretty darn good and everybody should go see it. The visuals are outstanding and the story is pretty good too, or is that the story is outstanding and the visuals are pretty good? Whatever, it was well worth the seven bucks.

Axis of ?

It was only seven years ago or so that our friends to the south (the United States) dubbed North Korea as a member of the “Axis of Evil”, along with Iran and Iraq. It would seem to me that these are pretty powerful fightin’ words from the right hounourable President of the United States, George W Bush. Words that one wouldn’t find too easy to set aside. Well I suppose it’s just plain silly to disregard the power of politics because now the United States is considering lifting trade sanctions against North Korea. Decent change in attitude in a mere seven years.

It did make me wonder though, what’s the story with Cuba? It’s been almost fifty years of trade sanctions and no end in sight (no matter what the members of the liberal media like to hypothesize every so often). I mean, really, Cuba was never even a member of something like an Axis of Evil. The best they ever did was being sort of a one man Axis of Annoying as a client state of the Soviet Union, and the Soviet Union went the way of the dinosaur almost two decades ago. You would have thought that the US would have taken pity on the little island when the Soviet Union imploded and said, in effect, “Hey, you guys made a mistake and you look kind of dumb right now. Why don’t we take some of your cigars and you can have some US tourists”? Drop the trade sanctions and invite old Castro up for coffee and tacos. Isn’t that the sort of thing that a kinder and gentler society would do? I can’t believe that the US is still POed about Castro being a Communist of some description, after all so are the Chinese and they got the Olympics! Anyhow, I was just wondering.
