More religious BS

I read this comment recently on the CBC website following a story about the religious idiots in the middle east killing and rampaging around because (they say) of a stupid little internet movie: "Religion didn't make the atom bomb, the machine gun, the tank, the "smart bombs", chemical and biological warfare, invade countries for the sake of resources, exterminate whole populations for the sake of eugenics, provide "factual" arguments about why it is permissible to have slave labour, fill our atmosphere and waters with pollution, dump tons of oil off the coasts of countries.... and on and on and on. Yes, there have been many crimes committed for the sake of religion, but also for science."

The writer was responding to another comment about how some religious folk just like to kill anyone who doesn't agree with them. I have always loved this way of "thinking". "Religious people didn't make atomic bombs and guns and stuff, scientists did!" the religious nut chortles, believing he has made a point of some kind. Interesting. However I think the real point is who ordered the use of the only atomic bombs ever used against real living people? That would be Predident Harry Truman of the United States, who was a Southern Baptist of some description. The Southern Baptists are the largest Protestant organization in the United States and second only to the Catholic Church as a Christian organization.

So, to follow this line of "thinking" to it's logical conclusion, if a religious person uses a weapon to kill someone who dares to disagree with him, then it's not the religious person's fault, it is the fault of whoever invented the weapon. Cool. Just wait until the drunk drivers get ahold of this line of reasoning.

Anyway... Humouroceros
